Knit: Linen Cowl

I recently discovered the one stitch to rule them all. A stitch that can make even an amateur like me look like a pro: The linen stitch.

I have a feeling that everything I make from here on out will be made from this stitch. Well, not actually, but I will use it until I shouldn’t anymore. I do love the woven effect of this stitch, and it’s so easy (see below for details).

Yarn, Things, Etc. | Linen CowlYarn, Things, Etc. | Linen CowlThis cowl consists of alternating rows of two colours. I completed two complete rows (K and P) before moving onto the next colour, which created a neat zig-zag/checker board effect.

Knit and Weave


  • Worsted weight wool or acrylic yarn
  • Size 10 knitting needles
  • Tapestry needle

Stitches Used:

  • Knit
  • Purl
  • Slip


Cast on 50 stitches (the linen stitch requires multiples of two stitches)
